How to Decide Whether to Remove a Troublesome Tree in Your Garden

Posted on: 21 February 2019

Australia is lucky in that it is filled with many beautiful and unique forms of nature, particularly its many trees that dot the city and the suburbs. These trees have a calming effect that reminds those in the city how lucky they are to live in such a picturesque landscape. Unfortunately, every now and then homeowners have to deal with some trees that are more trouble than they are worth, but knowing when it is appropriate to call the tree removalists can be tricky. Here are some guidelines for when it is okay to begin the process of getting your tree removed.

Danger of Falling

Every now and then trees become unstable, whether due to a harsh storm or simply because of old age or a lack of nutritional soil. It is easy to spot these trees because they begin to change angle sharply over a few days. Also, if a tree is not flourishing in the seasons it should it is most likely dead or dying. When you come across a tree on your property that is clearly unstable and in danger of falling, you should call a tree removalist immediately, as a falling tree can cause serious damage to you and your property.

Damaging Utilities

If you find out that a tree in your garden is responsible for cracking your water pipes or consistently dropping branches onto your power lines then you need to get it removed quickly. It can require a complicated procedure to remove a tree whose roots are cracking your water pipes, so the sooner you start it, the better. You won't be able to adequately fix your water pipes before the tree is removed, and this can mean your house goes without water for days if you do not act quickly.

Cracking Pavement or Foundations

In rarer cases, trees have been known to be dangerous for the foundations of your home. If you notice cracks in your pavement that have no noticeable cause, it could be due to the root system of a nearby tree. While you may be able to get away with simply cutting off part of the root system to prevent this type of damage, that procedure has its own risks. Cutting off only a portion of the root system can lead to the tree dying anyway, which means you would have to get the tree removalist out again to dispose of the now dead tree. If a tree is any danger to your home's foundation or nearby pavement, then it is easier to simply remove it once and be done with it.
